Plants, Plants and More Plants

Week two was all about plants, culminating in a field trip to one of the experiment stations associated with the university. They are running experiments to determine which species are better suited for the area. This includes cereal grain as well as flowers. After a brief presentation about the experiment station and it’s employees we were shown the flowers. So pretty!

As for cereal grains we were shown wheat, rye, barley, and triticale cultivars being tested for use in the area. This was done by having two reps for each part of the experiment. One part was looking at untreated cultivars and the other part was protecting the cultivars with herbicides and pesticides to see which faired better. If a cultivar was shown to be well suited for the area the word loz was added to the lower right of the nameplate.
