Malbork tidbit

Malbork Castle

By Donald G. McGahan

Soaked in history. The biggest brick castle in the world, the largest castle of the Gothic period.

Getting there from Bydgoszcz will take about an hour and forty minutes by rail. There will be a train change. A second class ticket is 32 zł and a first class ticket is 58 zł per person.

To get from the train station to the castle consider taking a taxi. Make your inquiries and find one that will take you for around 10 zł. Be steadfast as some will try to charge twice that! If you walk it to the castle it will take 15 minutes.

To walk leave the station to the right, walk straight, and go through the pedestrian underpass beneath the busy road (by the red staircase). On the other side, follow the busy road and take your first right turn on to Kościuszki. On Kościuszki, you will pass the fancy pink building housing the TI on the right. Near the bottom of Kościuszki, at the fountain and the McDonald’s. jog right. then bear left over two moats. Turn right and follow the castle wall to the end, where you’ll find the ticket foci (marked kasa)
